Email Phishing Scams Hit Close To Home
We do love our fishing here in Montana. Phishing, not so much. No matter where new technology takes us, criminals and scumbags are sure to follow. By now, just about everyone with an email address has received one of the emails from the First Bank of Chicago--or some other unfamiliar big-city bank--and just deleted it, assuming it's a mistake.

Marc Swanson: Teaching for the Nature Center
Marc Swanson gets paid to play in the snow with kids. What a job! Well, actually, he is teaching them about snow science as part of his work as the Education Director for the Beartooth Nature Center. He goes around to area schools, and takes out kids from the Boys and Girls Club in Red Lodge every Thursday.

New Carbon County Road Maps
There are a lot of options when it comes to local maps for Carbon County, ranging from the free Montana road maps at the visitors' center in Red Lodge, to detailed USGS topo maps and waterproof fishing maps.

No Flowers?
When the historic lighting was installed in downtown Red Lodge, each pole included hangers for flower baskets. The flowers, however, were not in the original budget. A group of downtown merchants got together and decided to make this happen.

Red Lodge High School Music Videos
These videos were produced by teams of high school students from the RLHS digital video class taught by Matt Schrowe. Their assignment: take a song, and create a music video for it, either based on the original video or something of your own creation.

The Return of Chuck Murphy
Red Lodge poet, Chuck Murphy, has found a new publisher for his book, Christ and the Cowboy. He filled it with new illustrations done by his grandson, Tyler Murphy, and it's back on the shelves. The cover of the new edition (the book on the right above) features a younger Chuck Murphy with his favorite horse.

Welcome Back, Angela!
The new general manager at the Pollard Hotel in Red Lodge isn't actually so new. Angela Beaumont managed the Pollard from 1995 to 1997, and then went back to the Jenny Lake Lodge in Grand Teton, which she's managed for 17 out of the last 20 years.

Winter Ascent of Rearguard
It was funny how the group started to decrease in numbers. First five, then three, and finally the morning of the big day, just two. Conveniently, many were suffering from self-induced morning flu or they were miraculously called to work just in the nick of time.
