Music Review: 10MT40s

by Alex Rochon
I've had the privilege of seeing 10mt40's (formerly Dyonisain and Desecrating Mary) about half a dozen times in Missoula, and have to say I'm one of their biggest fans. These noxious weeds stabbed their roots deep into the heart of our little town the better part of 5 years ago, and they haven't stopped since. Like a virus they spread their fan base, and a wake of mayhem, west to Missoula.

Beer Snob: Beer and Temperature

by Gary Robson
"We've got the coldest beer in town," proclaims the sign at the mini-mart. "I can't believe the English like to drink their beer warm," scoffs the guy on the barstool next to you. We all talk about the temperature of beer, but few people take the time to understand the effect it really has on the drink.

Cheapskate Wine Snob: Wine in the Summertime

I have been harping on the "light, acidic, refreshing summer white wine" thing for months now, and am going to quit, eventually. But I still have a few lively whites to praise this month.

Jeff the Nature Guy: Milk Maiden

by Jeff Ewelt
Do you realize we are the only mammal that drinks the milk of another mammal? When you think about it, it's actually pretty gross. I've always loved the unique trait of mammals to produce milk. Even we, as humans, possess this talent--and yes, it is possible for men to produce milk too.

Heirloom Recipes: Composed Dinner Salads for Summer

by Jay West
With Sunday evenings in July and August so often hot, composed salads are good things for dinner. What's a composed salad? A composed salad is pretty much any salad that is not a tossed salad. It includes jell-o salads, but this article isn't about any jell-o salads. Of course, we do have to mention gelatin, which is a byproduct of butchering cows. What we're talking about this month is the kind of salad where you lay ingredients out in separate piles on a platter and diners pick out what they want for their salad. It's the original salad bar.

About Town: Where are our Bears?

by Corey Thompson
Red Lodge has long had the reputation as a "Northern Exposure" type of place. The town turkeys, deer, and the occasional moose roaming around are tolerated and, most of the time, a curiosity. But the summer's town bears are something else. They have become nothing more than a scary town nuisance. How long have they been coming around? Locals can't remember a time when there weren't bears in town during the summer.

Montana Fashion: The Crystaline Fad

Allow me to preface this article by saying; I am not pointing fingers at anyone. Rather, I am presenting this information as a sort of press release for those who did not get the memo. So, with that being said, let it be known; the crystal fad is over!

Off the Reel: Public Enemies

by Doug Robson
Public Enemies is a movie focusing on the great John Dillinger, and Melvin Purvis, the man dedicated to bringing him down, along with most other famous mobsters of the 1930s. As many know, I'm a big fan of Johnny Depp (Dillinger), and that's because he changes with every movie; and not just in character, but in acting style, in appearance, and as an overall actor. The Johnny Depp of Pirates of the Caribbean, Edward Scissorhands, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Sweeney Todd are all totally different actors; that's the brilliance behind Depp's performance. This movie doesn't change that perspective on him whatsoever. Some argue he closely related to Sweeney Todd in this role, but he's still miles from that character. He's a new man entirely: John Dillinger. This is Public Enemies.
