We've all been in that awkward situation. When Aunt Muriel, the one that no one likes, hands you a gift. Your hands are already sweating with anticipation and memories from last year come flooding back. What other horrible gift could she possibly have gotten you this year? Unfortunately, I have been in that situation too often. So often in fact that I can mask the first feeling of "ugh?" very well! I wondered if there was anyone else that could relate to me, so I asked some fellow students of Red Lodge High School if they had ever received terrible, embarrassing, age inappropriate gifts. This is what I uncovered:
Zoe Contreras: "Two years ago, when I was fourteen years old, my Aunt Luana gave me a pair of bright pink, cheetah print footie pajamas. I looked like a giant six year old. Now they are stored in my garage."
Caitlin Nowak: "When I was fourteen years old, my step dad gave me a music box. It had horses painted all over it, and when you opened the lid, music played while a little horsie spun in circles. When we moved to Red Lodge, I 'lost' it."
Brian Kampfe: "On Christmas day when I was seven, my mother bought me two pocket fishing rods. They were the kind that you would wind up, pump, and shoot the lure into the lake. I was very excited, so of course I had to go fishing the very next day! The first fishing rod broke in the car on the way down when I tried to wind it up. When we arrived at the lake, the second one wound up, pumped, but wouldn't shoot into the water. Then my dad tried to fix it and ended up tangling the line. We just left those pieces of junk at the lake, they weren't even worth taking back home."
Isaac LaRowe: "My grandma loves knitting, so when I was thirteen years old and my grandma gave me yet another hand knit sweater-I couldn't say no. It was a pale green color and something that no one would ever been seen in public in."
