Red Lodge Area Services & Utilities

Welcome to Red Lodge! As you get settled in, here are some of the services you'll need to set up.

Power and Gas

Three companies cover our area for gas and electricity:

Northwestern Energy — 888-467-2669
Beartooth Electric Co-Op — 446-2310
Montana-Dakota Utilities — 800-638-3278

Water and Sewer

Bridger: 662-3677
Fromberg: 668-7383
Joliet: 962-3567
Red Lodge: 446-1606 or fax 446-3936.

Telephone

If you're going with a land line, then you'll be using Qwest (800-244-1111 residential or 800-603-6000 business) for local services unless you live in Belfry, Clark, or Absarokee, where the local carrier is Project Telephone (800-275-6002). You're free to use any long distance carrier, of course.

If you want to go cellular, our local carriers are Verizon (which the Radio Shack in Red Lodge handles) or Alltel.

Cable TV

Montana Cable — 800-628-6060
Bridger Cable TV — 662-3516

Internet Services (see article)

Both Qwest and Project Telephone have high-speed DSL as an option along with their telephone services, but don't count on it if you're living more than a couple of miles outside of town.

Verizon and Alltel both offer wireless Internet services that work through the cell towers.

Hughesnet and Wild Blue both offer satellite Internet services that work from just about anywhere. They have high latency (this will typically only bother online gamers), limit the amount you can download, and have very slow uploads. We've found that inclement weather is highly likely to cut off satellite Internet service.

If you are getting cable television, check on cable modems for Internet services.

Garbage Pickup

Contact Allied Waste (BFI) at 248-5400.

Recycling

There is a recycling center at the north end of Red Lodge (behind AY Supply and Beartooth Industries) that takes cardboard, paper (including magazines), aluminum, and plastic. There is also a dropoff for paper and cans in the Belfry School parking lot. Batteries can be taken to the Napa Auto Parts in Red Lodge. Red Lodge has curbside recycling as well.

At this time, there is no place in Carbon County to recycle glass or fluorescent light bulbs.

Landfill

We have no landfill in Carbon County. You can either go to the one in Billings, or the one in Clark, WY.
